Punjab MPs Urge Modi to Rename Veer Bal Diwas
Some important leaders from Punjab in India want to change the name of a special day called Veer Bal Diwas.
This day remembers the bravery of two young sons of a Sikh guru named Guru Gobind Singh.
They want to change the name to Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas because they think it better shows the religious and historical importance of the day.
They say this change has been asked for by important Sikh groups for a long time.
The leaders will talk about this in the Parliament and hope the government will agree to the change before the next observance on December 26.
Punjab MPs and Sikh institutions urge the renaming of Veer Bal Diwas to Sahibzade Shahadat Diwas.
The current name, Veer Bal Diwas, has been observed since 2022 but is seen as overlooking the day's religious significance.
Sikh institutions like Akal Takht and SGPC have formally requested this change, with resolutions dating back to 1934.
MPs Malvinder Singh Kang and Balbir Singh Seechewal have written to Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the importance of cultural sensitivity and historical justice.
The demand aligns with a recent pronouncement by the acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht, Giani Kuldeep Singh Gargajj.
