US Military Withdrawal from Iraq Set for September 30

The United States is getting ready to leave Iraq for good.

Iraq's leader, Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi, says every American soldier must be out of the country by September 30.

American soldiers have been in Iraq for 23 years, first arriving in 2003.

They came back in 2014 to help Iraq fight a dangerous group called ISIS.

ISIS has now been defeated, so the mission is ending.

Starting October 1, Iraq says it will be free of any foreign military presence.

Iraqi soldiers, including the Peshmerga forces in the north, will take over the job of protecting the country.

The United States and Iraq say they will keep working together on trade and security as friends.

This is seen as a new day for Iraq after more than two decades of foreign troops.
