Road Safety Campaigns Across India
In January, which is Road Safety Month, two big events happened in India to teach people about safe driving.
One was in Hyderabad on the Nehru Outer Ring Road (NORR), organized by IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd.
They had a special program where people promised to drive safely.
A judge from the Supreme Court visited and liked what they were doing.
The other event was in Rajamahendravaram, where the East Godavari District Transport Department taught motorists about the importance of wearing helmets and seat belts.
They said that not following these rules can cause big problems and even cost the country a lot of money.
They warned that people who don't follow the rules will have to pay fines.
Both events wanted to make sure everyone is safe on the roads.
IRB Golconda Expressway Private Ltd organized a Road Safety Month programme on the Nehru Outer Ring Road (NORR) in Hyderabad, including a road safety pledge.
The East Godavari District Transport Department conducted an awareness campaign in Rajamahendravaram, focusing on the importance of helmets and seat belts.
Accidents on the NORR have reduced significantly due to road safety initiatives, while road accidents account for an economic loss of nearly 3% of the National GDP.
A Supreme Court Judge visited the NORR and appreciated the road safety measures in place.
Enforcement will be tightened during the month, with fines of Rs 1,000 for riding without a helmet and Rs 1,500 for driving without a seat belt.
