Locked Collectorate Gate Triggers Farmers’ Protest, Highway Blockade in Barwani
Farmers in Barwani went to the Collectorate to give officials a list of demands.
They found the gate locked and no official available to receive their memorandum.
This made the farmers angry.
They brought tractors and other vehicles onto two highways and stopped traffic for about 20 minutes.
They also sat on the road and raised slogans.
Government and police officials came to speak with them.
The farmers eventually gave their memorandum to SDM Bhupendra Singh Rawat.
They want better crop prices, cheaper farm supplies, canal repairs and water, and compensation for rain-damaged crops.
They warned that they may hold a larger protest on December 1 if their demands are not addressed.
