Gulveer Singh Wins India’s First Commonwealth 10,000m Medal
Gulveer Singh is a runner from India who won a silver medal in a big race called the Commonwealth Games.
The race was in Glasgow, Scotland, and it rained a lot.
He had to stay with the fastest runners and then sprint at the end to finish second.
This was the first time an Indian had won a medal in this race.
He is also in the Indian Army and has set national records in several long‑distance events.
Gulveer Singh earned India’s first Commonwealth Games medal in the men’s 10,000m with a silver time of 27:49.78.
The race took place in Glasgow, Scotland, under heavy rain and cold conditions, and no African athlete finished on the podium for the first time since 1970.
Gold went to Ky Robinson of Australia (27:48.93) and bronze to David Mullarkey of the Isle of Man (27:50.28).
Singh, 28, is a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army’s Grenadiers Regiment and holds national records in the 10,000m, 3,000m, 5,000m, and 25‑km road race.
He trained at a high‑altitude center in Colorado Springs under coach Scott Simmons and has won gold in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the 2025 Asian Athletics Championships.
