Man Sentenced for Multiple Murders in India
A man named Singh Raj was sentenced to life in prison for kidnapping and killing a young Dalit woman in Gurugram.
He was working as a security guard at a hospital when he molested the woman.
She threatened to report him to the police, so he asked her to meet him and then strangled her.
He dumped her body in a canal.
The police found the body and recorded his confession, which was used as evidence in court.
Singh Raj also confessed to killing three other girls and his uncle and cousin, but he was only convicted for this murder.
The court also fined him ₹2.1 lakh.
Other cases are still being investigated.
Singh Raj was sentenced to life imprisonment for the kidnapping and murder of a 20-year-old Dalit woman in December 2021.
He confessed to killing the woman after she allegedly tried to extort money by threatening to file a police complaint against him for molestation.
Key evidence included his recorded confession and the cell tower location of both the victim and the convict at the time of the murder.
Singh Raj also confessed to murdering three minor girls in 2019, 2020, and 2021, and his uncle and cousin in 1987, but trials are ongoing for the minor girls' murders, and he was acquitted in the 1987 cases due to lack of evidence.
The court imposed a total fine of ₹2.1 lakh on Singh Raj under Sections 302, 364, and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, along with Section 3(2)(v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
