'Tony' Review Finds Film Struggles to Connect Bourdain's Past
The film is about Tony Bourdain when he was young.
It tries to show how he became the famous person people later knew.
The review says the film does not completely connect those two parts of his life.
Dominic Sessa plays Tony.
He does not copy the older Bourdain’s mannerisms.
Instead, he shows that Tony is complicated and unsure of himself.
Tony often acts confident, but the film suggests this confidence is partly a disguise.
His body language makes him seem watchful, nervous, and uncertain about whether he belongs.
The film attempts to connect Bourdain as a boy with his future celebrity.
The review says the film cannot fully bridge that gap.
Dominic Sessa gives an effective performance as the young Tony.
Sessa avoids imitating the older Bourdain and instead conveys his contradictions.
Tony’s arrogance is presented as armor for deep uncertainty rather than genuine confidence.
