Innovative Safety Measures for Gangasagar Mela 2026
The Gangasagar Mela is a big event where many people gather for a holy dip.
This year, the authorities have introduced a special remote-controlled lifebuoy drone to keep everyone safe in the water.
This drone can find people who might be in trouble, help rescue them, and even tow heavy loads.
It has cool features like a camera that shows live pictures, a system to bring it back if it gets lost, and a strong body that can handle rough water.
The drone can move very fast and work even if it tips over.
Additionally, the Kolkata Police have set up roadside kiosks to provide tea, drinking water, and food to pilgrims traveling by road.
They have also arranged standby buses to ensure that the journey of the pilgrims is not disrupted.
The event is happening from January 10 to 17, with the main holy dips on January 14 and 15.
A remote-controlled lifebuoy water drone has been deployed at the Gangasagar Mela for the first time to enhance water safety.
The drone has an operational range of up to 1 kilometre and can reach victims faster than human swimmers with a speed of 7 metres per second.
It is equipped with advanced features including auto-righting capability, real-time video feedback, high towing capacity, and an auto-return system.
The Gangasagar Mela is scheduled from January 10 to 17, 2026, with the holy dip taking place on January 14 and 15.
The drone is constructed from high-density, impact-resistant LLDPE polymer, ensuring safety for distressed individuals holding onto it.
