IRCTC and RVNL Shares Rise Amid Fare Hike
The share prices of IRCTC and RVNL, two companies related to Indian Railways, went up on December 23 and December 24, 2023, respectively.
IRCTC's share price started at ₹686.55 and went up to ₹686.85 before settling at ₹682.80 by 11 am.
RVNL's share price opened at ₹344 and reached a high of ₹349.40, its highest level since early October.
This happened because Indian Railways decided to increase the prices of train tickets for all classes starting from December 26, 2023.
The Sensex, which measures the stock market, was down by 17 points at that time.
The fare hike is expected to generate around ₹600 crore in additional revenue and help improve the financial sustainability of passenger services.
IRCTC share price rose by almost 1% in morning trade on December 23, 2023, despite a weak market.
RVNL share price hit a 2-month high, surging 14% over four straight sessions starting December 24, 2023.
Indian Railways decided to increase passenger train fares across all classes from December 26, 2023.
The fare hike is expected to generate around ₹600 crore in additional revenue for the remaining fiscal year.
Both IRCTC and RVNL have seen recent improvements in share prices amid the fare hike announcement.
