CBI Alleges DIG Bhullar's Conduit Accumulated Rs 1.2 Crore in Corrupt Dealings
Imagine a police officer, DIG Bhullar, who is suspected of doing bad things to get money.
The police believe he used a friend, Krishanu Sharda, like a secret helper or 'conduit' to receive this money.
Over the last two years, this friend and his wife have gotten a lot of money and gold, about 1.2 crore rupees, which the police think came from illegal favors.
The police have arrested both the officer and his friend.
The officer's friend says he didn't do anything wrong and that the police are wrongly accusing them.
However, the police found evidence on the friend's phone and showed the judge that they found lots of cash and gold at the officer's house too.
The judge agreed that the police need more time to talk to the officer and his friend to find out if there's a bigger secret plan.
The police also say they have the right to investigate even if another police group started looking into it first, because it's all part of the same problem of getting money unfairly.
CBI alleges suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar used Krishanu Sharda as a conduit to accumulate Rs 1.2 crore in corrupt proceeds over two years.
Assets traced include cash deposits and gold jewelry in the names of Sharda and his wife, Honey Sharma.
Both Bhullar and Sharda have been arrested and remanded to police custody for further interrogation.
Sharda's defense counsel argued that asset allegations are unfounded and the CBI has had sufficient interrogation time.
The court allowed the CBI's plea for extended custody, citing the need to unravel a broader conspiracy and examine evidence, despite defense objections regarding multiple FIRs.

CBI's Argument
Defence Counsel's Argument
Asset Accumulation
CBI's Argument
Assets worth Rs 1.2 crore, including cash and gold jewelry, have been traced in the names of Krishanu Sharda and his wife Honey Sharma over the past two years, strongly indicating these are proceeds of corruption facilitated by Sharda acting as a conduit for suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar and other senior public servants.
Defence Counsel's Argument
The allegation that the accused acquired assets beyond Rs 1 lakh during the period in question is unfounded, and the CBI has arbitrarily compiled the asset list.
Police Remand Justification
CBI's Argument
Further interrogation is necessary to unearth a broader conspiracy, confront Sharda with digital data from his phone, and obtain truthful explanations for the accumulation of huge cash, jewelry, and luxury assets from Bhullar's residence. Bhullar has been uncooperative and provided evasive replies.
Defence Counsel's Argument
The CBI has been given sufficient opportunity to interrogate the accused, and the defense counsel argued against the need for further remand.
Jurisdiction and Multiple FIRs
CBI's Argument
The CBI has jurisdiction to investigate the disproportionate assets case, even if a similar FIR was filed by the Punjab Police Vigilance Bureau, as the current FIR is an offshoot of a trap case and the unlawful accumulation of assets reflects a continuing chain of transactions yet to be unraveled.
Defence Counsel's Argument
The current FIR registered by the CBI was filed in violation of law, as a disproportionate assets FIR had already been filed by the Punjab Police Vigilance Bureau on October 29, and two FIRs cannot be registered for the same offense.
