Women's Justice Convention Demands Action in Dharmasthala
On December 16, which is Anti-Rape Day, women's rights groups in Karnataka held a big meeting called the Women's Justice Convention.
They wanted to help families of women who have been hurt or gone missing in a place called Dharmasthala.
They gave a list of demands to the government, asking for better protection for women and a fair investigation into past crimes.
They also want special teams to look into these cases without any problems.
The groups said that some officials did not do their jobs properly and need to be punished.
They also want schools to teach about respect and equality and for the government to make sure women are safe in public places.
Women’s rights organizations submitted a charter of demands to the Karnataka government for justice and stronger safety measures for women in Dharmasthala.
The demands were submitted on December 16, observed as Anti-Rape Day, through the Belthangady Tahsildar.
The groups called for a comprehensive investigation into unresolved cases over the past decade, including sexual assaults and murders.
They urged the government to ensure the independence and transparency of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the cases.
The memorandum also demanded the establishment of an independent support group to assist and monitor the SIT and the implementation of stringent safety protocols in public and religious places.
