Americans Drink More Coffee, But Starbucks Loses Market Share
Americans are drinking more coffee than ever, but they're not getting it from Starbucks as much as they used to.
Starbucks is still the biggest coffee chain in the U.S., but other places like Dunkin', Dutch Bros, and even McDonald's are taking some of its customers.
These other coffee shops are offering bigger drinks, better prices, and more variety.
Starbucks is trying to win back customers by making its stores nicer and adding new foods and drinks to its menu.
Even though Starbucks is facing tough competition, it plans to open more stores and keep improving its cafes to stay on top.
Americans' daily coffee consumption increased to 66% in 2024-2025, up from 59% in 2020.
Starbucks' market share in the U.S. dropped from 52% in 2023 to 48% in 2024-2025.
Competitors like Dunkin', Dutch Bros, and Luckin Coffee are gaining market share with larger drinks, better prices, and more variety.
Starbucks plans to open 575 new U.S. stores in the next three years and is redesigning its cafes to be more welcoming.
Starbucks is adding new products, like updated pastries and protein-rich snacks, to attract customers.
