Assam Rifles Seize Myanmar Currency, Tobacco, Cigarettes in Mizoram
Assam Rifles, a paramilitary force in India, stopped a truck in Mizoram, a state in northeastern India.
They found a lot of money from Myanmar, some tobacco, and foreign cigarettes.
They also caught a man from Myanmar who was helping with the smuggling.
This is not the first time this has happened.
Earlier, they stopped another vehicle and found even more money from Myanmar.
Mizoram shares a long border with Myanmar, which makes it easy for smugglers to bring in illegal goods.
The police are now handling the case.
Assam Rifles seized Myanmar currency worth Kyat 1.75 crore, tobacco worth Rs 50,000, and foreign cigarettes worth Rs 1.30 lakh in Mizoram.
A Myanmar national, U. Phyu Maung (37), was arrested in connection with the smuggling.
The seizure took place in the Tuipang area of Siaha district, Mizoram, based on intelligence inputs.
Earlier, on January 16, Assam Rifles seized Myanmar currency worth Kyat 1,40,82,000 (Rs 1.40 crore) and apprehended one person.
Mizoram shares a 510-km unfenced border with Myanmar and a 318-km porous border with Bangladesh, making it a hotspot for smuggling.
