Marie Wilson Presents Tamil Nadu's Maiden TVK Budget
On August 5, 2026, the person in charge of Tamil Nadu's money, Finance Minister N Marie Wilson, gave a big speech about how the state will spend its money in the coming year.
It was the very first budget for the new government led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay.
The budget gives money for many helpful programs.
Babies born in government hospitals will get tiny gold rings.
Brides will get a silk saree and a gold coin on their wedding day.
Students will get laptops, and thousands of schools will be cleaned and modernized.
The state also plans to build many charging stations for electric cars and train 100,000 people for jobs.
There will be new Olympic centers to train student athletes.
Tamil Nadu hopes to grow into a very large economy by the year 2035.
Tamil Nadu Finance Minister N Marie Wilson presented the state's 2026–27 budget, the first of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay's TVK-led government, on August 5, 2026.
The budget sets aside Rs 2,000 crore for a new AI policy, with IIT-Madras and other institutions helping build an AI workforce by 2031.
Health and family welfare received Rs 23,353 crore, while the transport department got Rs 13,561 crore, including talks with Karnataka on a metro link to Hosur.
Welfare schemes include a silk saree and eight grams of gold for brides under Annan Seer Thittam (Rs 812 crore), 1-gram gold rings for newborns (Rs 560 crore), and 200 units of free electricity.
The government aims to become a $1.5 trillion economy by 2035–36 and plans to build 20,000 public EV charging stations across the state within five years.
