India Exceeds 1 Billion Tonnes of Coal Production, Aims to Curb Imports
India made over a billion tonnes of coal in the last year!
The government wants to use more coal made in India and buy less from other countries.
They're doing this by making it easier to get approvals for coal mines, allowing mine owners to sell some coal, and letting companies invest in the coal sector.
They are also changing the rules so that power plants and other industries can get more coal from India and rely less on coal from other countries.
This helps the country produce more of its own energy resources.
India's coal production crossed 1 billion tonnes in fiscal year 2024-25.
Coal India Limited (CIL) contributed 781.07 million tonnes of the total production.
Government is taking strategic measures to reduce dependency on imported coal.
Key initiatives include full Annual Contracted Quantity allocation and amended linkage auction policy.
Reforms include the amended MMDR Act, Single Window Clearance, and allowing 100% FDI.
