Women Declare #IamJaneDoe in Support of Cornell Accuser

A Cornell student is suing seven fraternity members and the university over an alleged rape in 2024.

She is using the name Jane Doe in her lawsuit.

Her lawyer says people trying to find and publish her real name have upset her, and some women have been mistakenly identified.

Other women are posting #IamJaneDoe to show support and protect her choice about whether to share her identity.

Some say the hashtag can help survivors feel less alone.

Commentator Michael Tracey says trying to identify her is part of his journalistic work and is protected by free speech.

He posted a name he thought was hers, then deleted it and said people should not harass her or those close to her.

The accused men deny wrongdoing, and Cornell says it handled the matter appropriately.

Prosecutors have reopened a criminal investigation that had earlier closed without charges.
