Guru Purnima 2026: Honouring the Guru-Shishya Tradition

Guru Purnima is a special day when we honour our teachers and the important tradition of mentorship in India.

This tradition, called the guru-shishya paramparā, has been passed down for thousands of years.

A guru is someone who helps us understand ourselves better, teaches us how to live well, and guides us towards enlightenment.

On this day, we remember the great sage Vyasa, who made important contributions to Indian thought, including organizing the Vedas and writing the Mahabharata.

We also think about the qualities of a good student, like being humble, asking questions, and serving others.

Guru Purnima is a time to be grateful for our teachers and to promise to keep learning and growing.
