New Products Drive 72% Growth in India’s GLP-1 Market
The market for a group of anti-obesity medicines called GLP-1 drugs grew a lot in sales value in September 2026.
But fewer units were sold than a year earlier.
Pharmarack said new products, especially generic versions of semaglutide, helped drive the increase.
These newer semaglutide products made up more than half of semaglutide sales in September.
Tirzepatide still had a larger share of the market than semaglutide.
Mounjaro, a tirzepatide brand, was the top-selling drug.
Pharmarack also reported growing demand in smaller Indian cities.
Its earlier analysis said generic sales were growing more slowly, while established brands continued to grow.
The GLP-1 market’s sales value rose 72% year over year in September 2026, while units sold fell 10%.
Pharmarack put the broader anti-obesity drug market at Rs 287.9 crore in September, up 5.8% from August.
New semaglutide products launched in 2026 generated Rs 66.7 crore, or 58.8% of semaglutide sales that month.
Tirzepatide accounted for 57.5% of September sales, compared with 39.4% for semaglutide; Mounjaro sales reached Rs 133.7 crore.
Pharmarack said demand for anti-obesity drugs was strong in tier-II and tier-III markets, while generic sales growth had begun to slow in its June analysis.
