West Bengal BLOs Resume Duty After EC Warning, Flood Aid Camps Set Up
In West Bengal, all 143 election workers, called BLOs, are back at their jobs after the election bosses warned them they would be in trouble if they didn't show up.
These BLOs help manage the voter lists.
Some of them hadn't started their work or gone to training even after months, which slowed down preparations for updating voter lists.
The election bosses told them they had to start by Thursday, or face punishments like being suspended.
By Thursday morning, most of them had reported for duty.
Also, in North Bengal, special camps were opened in areas hit by floods to help people get copies of important papers they lost.
Separately, some politicians in West Bengal made comments about the Chief Election Commissioner, and the state's election office sent a report about it to the main election commission.
All 143 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in West Bengal resumed duty on Thursday after a warning from the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Some BLOs had been reluctant to take charge or attend training, disrupting preparatory work for electoral roll revision.
The ECI had warned that non-compliant BLOs would face stringent administrative action, including possible suspension.
Special assistance camps have been established in flood-affected areas of North Bengal to help residents obtain duplicate documents.
A report has been sent to the ECI regarding comments made by Trinamool Congress leaders concerning the Chief Election Commissioner.
