Mumbai Cybercrime Cases Rise 44% to 4,254
Mumbai Police recorded 4,254 cybercrime cases from January to August 2026.
That was more than 44% higher than the number recorded in the same months of 2025.
Credit and debit card online fraud was the biggest listed type, with 1,020 cases.
There were also 2,283 cases classified as online cheating.
Police detected 1,121 cases overall and arrested 794 people.
Police said they register cybercrime complaints and share warnings on social media.
Mumbai Police registered 4,254 cybercrime cases from January through August 2026, up more than 44% from 2,948 in the same period of 2025.
Police detected 1,121 of this year's cases and arrested 794 people.
Credit/debit card online fraud led the reported categories with 1,020 cases; hacking accounted for 202.
Of 2,283 online cheating cases, 302 involved share market investment fraud, the largest listed category.
Police said they register cases and use social media to raise awareness of emerging and ongoing cybercrime.
