Karnataka urged to name midday meal scheme after Chennamma Devi

Chennamma Devi was the wife of HD Deve Gowda, who used to be the Prime Minister of India.

A leader named T A Sharavana asked the Karnataka government to name the midday meal scheme after her.

The midday meal scheme gives free food to students in government schools.

Sharavana said naming the scheme after her would help people remember her.

The Chief Minister of Karnataka, DK Shivakumar, also spoke about her in the Legislative Assembly.

He said she stood by her husband and her family through good and difficult times.

He decided to give her the highest state honours even though people had different views about it.
