IMD Warns of Heavy Rain Across Eastern India
India’s weather agency has predicted a lot of rain in several parts of the country.
Odisha could receive very heavy rain from August 24 to 26.
Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal may also get heavy rain.
The rain is linked to a low-pressure weather system over the Bay of Bengal.
Some areas could have thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds.
Flooding may happen in low-lying places, and roads or trains could be disrupted.
Parts of Odisha have already received extremely heavy rain, including 34 centimetres in Kalahandi.
Delhi is expected to have mostly cloudy weather with only light rain in some places.
The India Meteorological Department forecast isolated very heavy rain in Odisha from August 24 to 26, with heavy rain possible through August 29.
Chhattisgarh may receive widespread rain and isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 23 to 25, along with thunderstorms and lightning.
Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal are expected to receive significant rainfall, with isolated heavy rain in several areas.
A low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal is expected to move across north Odisha and adjoining Gangetic West Bengal.
The IMD warned of waterlogging, flooding, traffic disruption and a low to moderate flash-flood risk in parts of Odisha.
