India Rejects USCIRF Sanctions Call Against RSS Leaders

A United States commission that examines religious freedom criticized India and the RSS.

It said some RSS members should face sanctions if they were responsible for violations.

It also said RSS leaders should not receive special meetings or diplomatic courtesies in the United States.

The commission’s chair said groups linked to the RSS had attacked Christians and Muslims.

India’s foreign ministry rejected these claims.

Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called the commission biased and lacking credibility.

The commission also recommended labeling India a country of particular concern.

Its recommendations are suggestions and are not automatically binding on the US government.

The dispute became public before RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s planned overseas visit.
