Asian Games Medalists’ Payouts Vary Across Governments and Organizations
Indian athletes who win medals at the Asian Games may receive money as well as medals.
The central government gives individual gold, silver and bronze winners different set amounts.
State governments can offer their own rewards, which may be much larger.
For example, Uttar Pradesh announced ₹3 crore for each of five gold medallists.
Other states, including Himachal Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, have also announced rewards.
Sports groups and private organisations may add more money.
Team rewards can be divided among eligible players.
Athletes who win more than one medal may qualify for extra incentives.
This means the final amount is different for each athlete.
The Union government scheme offers individual Asian Games gold, silver and bronze medallists ₹30 lakh, ₹20 lakh and ₹10 lakh, respectively.
Team-event payments depend on team size and applicable rules; athletes with multiple medals may qualify for additional incentives.
Uttar Pradesh announced ₹3 crore each for five gold medallists and says Gulveer Singh is expected to receive ₹5 crore for Asian Games and Commonwealth Games performances.
Himachal Pradesh announced ₹5.33 crore combined for its medallists, while Tamil Nadu’s revised awards range from ₹30 lakh for bronze to ₹75 lakh for gold.
Private and sports-body rewards include ₹1 crore for Pranavi Urs and ₹11 lakh per player for each of India’s gold-winning hockey teams.
