Delhi's Literacy Rates Rise with Women Leading
Delhi is getting smarter!
More people can read and write now than ever before.
Women are leading this change, going to school and college more than before.
There are also more female teachers, especially in primary schools.
However, even though more women are studying, fewer women are working compared to men.
The good news is that unemployment is lower in Delhi than in the rest of India.
So, Delhi is making great progress in education, especially for women!
Delhi's literacy rate has risen from 38.36% in 1951 to 86.21% in 2011.
Women's literacy rate (80.76%) has grown faster than men's (90.94%) between 1951 and 2011.
Female teachers outnumber male teachers in primary schools, with 415 female teachers per 100 male teachers in 2024-25.
Female enrollment in higher education increased from 49.08% in 2022-23 to 50.57% in 2023-24.
Despite educational progress, women's workforce participation remains low at 14.2% compared to men's 52.8% in 2023-24.
