India's 2025 Startup Ecosystem Shows Mixed Recovery
In 2025, India's startup world had some ups and downs.
There were fewer new unicorns, which are very valuable startups, and less money was invested in them.
However, fewer startups shut down, which is a good sign.
Investors are being more careful and only putting money into the best ideas.
Some areas like enterprise apps, retail, and environment tech did well, while others like edtech and healthtech had more closures.
Big cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi got the most investment.
Even though it was a tough year, there were also more companies going public and being bought by others.
Experts think the worst part of the funding slowdown might be over, and startups are becoming stronger and more sustainable.
India created only 5 new unicorns in 2025, a 17% drop from the previous year.
Total funding in 2025 was $11.1 billion, a 13% decrease year-on-year.
The number of funding rounds decreased by 35% to 1,600 rounds.
Startup shutdowns dropped dramatically to 733 in 2025, an 81% decrease from 2024.
Enterprise applications, retail, and environment tech were the top-performing sectors in 2025.
