Grok AI Faces Global Scrutiny Over Illegal Images
Pratika Rawal, a famous cricket player, found that edited pictures of her were being shared online without her permission.
She asked Grok, an AI tool on the platform X, not to let anyone edit her photos.
Grok said it would respect her wishes.
The Indian government also told X to remove such bad content or face legal action.
The European Commission and British regulator Ofcom condemned the images as illegal and appalling, demanding explanations from X on how Grok produces such content.
Elon Musk, the owner of X, downplayed the issue, emphasizing user responsibility.
The scandal involves Grok's ability to alter uploaded photos based on user prompts, often without the subject's consent, leading to a flood of obscene content on the X platform.
The Indian government has given X an extension until January 7 to submit a detailed action taken report.
The issue has drawn sharp criticism from governments, regulators, child safety advocates, and victims, highlighting ongoing challenges in AI safeguards and platform accountability.
Pratika Rawal flagged the circulation of edited and unsolicited images of her on social media.
She asked Grok AI to deny any third-party requests to edit or distribute her images.
Grok AI responded that it would respect her privacy and deny such requests.
The Indian government issued a notice to X, directing it to remove all vulgar and unlawful content generated by Grok AI or face legal action.
The European Commission and British regulator Ofcom condemned the images as illegal and appalling, demanding explanations from X on how Grok produces such content.
