Karnataka BJP backs farmers opposing Bengaluru airport land acquisition

Farmers in the Kanakapura region of Karnataka are opposing the government's plan to build a second international airport in their area.

They are worried about losing their farmland and livelihoods.

The leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, B.Y. Vijayendra, supports the farmers and suggests building the airport in Tumakuru district instead.

The Chief Minister, D.K. Shivakumar, wants the airport in Kanakapura, his home region.

Other leaders also have different opinions on where the airport should be built.

The government is waiting for a technical report to help decide the location.
