Bail Denied for Retired Officials in Madh Island Map Forgery Case
Two retired officials in Mumbai were denied bail after being accused of faking maps.
They allegedly altered maps to make it look like there were buildings on Madh Island before they were actually built, which breaks the rules.
This was done to bypass rules about building near the coast.
The police said the officials and others made up 58 constructions on the maps.
The officials said they are innocent and have health problems.
But the court said the evidence against them is strong enough to keep them in jail, because the accusations are serious, and there is material to show their involvement in the alleged crime.
The investigation is still ongoing, and more maps are being checked.
A sessions court rejected the bail applications of two retired City Survey Office officials.
The officials were arrested for allegedly manipulating maps to facilitate illegal construction.
The police investigation revealed 58 constructions were falsely indicated to bypass Coastal Zone Regulations.
The accused officials claimed innocence and cited health issues in their bail pleas.
The court cited the seriousness of the charges and evidence in denying bail.
