Uneven Digitalization Surge Across Indian States
A new report shows that India's digital transformation is growing fast, but not all states are advancing at the same pace.
The report uses a framework called CHIPS to measure digital progress in five areas: connect, harness, innovate, protect, and sustain.
It groups states into four categories based on their digitalization levels.
The most advanced states are Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
These states have the best technology hubs and higher internet usage.
However, even these advanced states face cyber fraud issues.
The report suggests that future digital growth should focus on improving access, adoption, and protection to make digitalization more secure and even across all states.
India's digital transformation is advancing rapidly but unevenly across states, according to a new report by ICRIER and IPCIDE.
The report uses the CHIPS framework to measure digitalization levels, grouping states into four categories: advanced, assured, ascending, and aspirational digitalizers.
Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Haryana are the most advanced digital states, home to major technology hubs like Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Internet usage averaged 63% nationally in 2024, with lower-tier states showing significant gains in connectivity.
Digital Public Infrastructure systems like Aadhaar and UPI have widespread adoption, but other public platforms like e-NAM and e-Sanjeevani have limited use.
