Delhi Pushes EV Policy and Carpooling
The Delhi government is making a new plan for electric vehicles (EVs) and is also pushing for carpooling.
The EV plan will help build more places to charge EVs and support research to make better EVs.
They will also set up places to swap batteries and help change old cars to run on electricity.
The goal is to have cleaner air and make it easier for people to use EVs.
The new plan will start next year, and the old plan is extended until March.
The government will also give money to help people buy new EVs and scrap old, polluting cars.
Additionally, the government is talking to companies like Ola, Uber, and Rapido to bring back carpooling.
This will help reduce traffic and pollution by having fewer vehicles on the road.
The companies need to make some changes to their apps to support carpooling and ride-sharing, which should start soon.
Delhi's EV Policy 2.0 focuses on boosting public charging infrastructure and R&D with a ₹100 crore fund.
1,000 public charging stations and 1,000 battery swapping stations are planned with incentives.
15,000 AC charging points and 2,000 DC charging points to be installed with a total outlay of ₹8 crore.
Retrofitting of 50,000 conventional vehicles to EVs with an outlay of ₹5 crore.
The new policy includes financial incentives for scrapping old vehicles and purchasing EVs, with exemptions on road tax and registration fees.
