The Enforcement Directorate, or ED, asked Kerala’s police to consider opening a criminal case.

The request names Pinarayi Vijayan, his daughter T. Veena and her husband P.A. Mohammed Riyas.

It concerns payments involving a company called CMRL and Veena’s firm, Exalogic Solutions.

The ED says the payments may not have been for real services.

It says it collected statements, documents and digital evidence.

The police chief has not yet decided whether to register a case.

The request became public just before the CPI-M planned a meeting about its poor election performance.

The controversy could make that party meeting more difficult.

A BJP leader also said Vijayan should resign as Leader of the Opposition.

State Home Minister who described the police chief’s receipt of the ED letter.

“The need of the hour is for Vijayan to realise that he has no moral ground to remain as Leader of the Opposition and quit. This post has been occupied by giants in the CPI-M. He has no other option but to resign.”
