Infrastructure Investment Trusts May Reach Rs 21 Lakh Crore by 2030

Infrastructure Investment Trusts (InvITs) in India are expected to grow significantly, with assets under management projected to reach Rs 21 lakh crore by 2030.

These trusts invest in infrastructure projects like toll roads, power transmission lines, and telecom towers.

The growth is driven by new areas such as data centres, battery storage, and urban utilities.

Currently, there are around 27 InvITs, with public sector undertakings and large private companies as key sponsors.

The industry is seeing increased interest from insurance companies, pension funds, and banks.

Sebi regulates InvITs to ensure investor protection, requiring at least 80% of assets to be in operational projects and 90% of net distributable cash flow to be distributed to investors every six months.
