One in Four Kendriya Vidyalayas Lack Full-Time Principals
India has a big network of central schools called Kendriya Vidyalayas.
Right now, about one out of every four of these schools does not have a permanent principal.
This is a problem because principals help run the school.
The Ministry of Education says they are filling the gaps by letting vice-principals or senior teachers act as principals and by hiring temporary teachers.
Even though they have hired many new teachers and principals in recent years, the number of schools without a full-time principal has still gone up.
The Ministry says the schools still do well in exams, so the lack of principals is not hurting learning right now.
344 of 1,356 Kendriya Vidyalayas lack a full‑time principal, about 25%
Vacancy rate has risen from 200 posts in 2015‑16 to 344 now
