Mumbai Commission Rejects Farmer’s Brother’s ₹1 Lakh Insurance Claim

Rahul Gopichand Patil asked for insurance money after his farmer-brother Sagar died in a motorcycle accident.

The accident happened in Lamboti village on May 24, 2011.

The insurance scheme was paid for by the Maharashtra government and implemented by Future Generali India Insurance Co.

Ltd.

Rahul asked for ₹1 lakh, interest, damages and legal costs.

The commission said Rahul was allowed to bring the case because he was a legal heir.

However, the scheme listed specific family members who could receive the money.

Those listed included a spouse, unmarried daughter, mother, sons, grandchildren and married daughter.

A brother was not on the list.

Therefore, the commission rejected the claim and said the insurer had not acted improperly.
