Rupee Depreciates Amid Market Declines
The Indian rupee became weaker by 23 paise, reaching 89.94 against the US dollar.
This happened because foreign investors were selling shares and buying dollars, oil prices went up, and there was uncertainty about trade deals.
The stock market also went down, with the Sensex and Nifty losing points.
The dollar became slightly weaker, but oil prices increased a bit.
All these things together made the rupee less valuable.
The market ended lower due to a lack of fresh triggers and mixed global cues, with most sectors, except metals and consumer durables, closing in the red.
Meanwhile, India's forex reserves increased by $4.36 billion to $693 billion, with significant contributions from foreign currency assets and gold reserves.
The Indian rupee depreciated by 23 paise to 89.94 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday.
Foreign fund outflows, rising crude oil prices, and trade deal uncertainty weighed on the rupee and the stock market.
The Sensex ended with a loss of 367 points, or 0.43%, at 85,041.45, while the Nifty 50 settled at 26,042.30, down 100 points, or 0.38%.
The overall market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms dropped to nearly ₹474 lakh crore from ₹475 lakh crore in the previous session.
Most sectors, including IT, auto, pharma, and PSU banks, closed in the red, with the Nifty IT index dropping 1%, while metals and consumer durables managed gains.
