PIB Debunks Misleading Protest Videos as Delhi Police Clarifies Gurdwara Clip
Some videos online were said to show events at protests in Delhi.
The Press Information Bureau checked several of them and said the claims were misleading or false.
One video said to show a protest at Jantar Mantar was actually from a protest at Aligarh Muslim University.
Another old video was wrongly described as showing police firing at protesters.
The agency also rejected claims that officials dumped garbage to disrupt protests.
Delhi Police explained that officers in a Gurdwara Bangla Sahib video were walking through a passage used by devotees.
Police said the video was shared to cause religious offence and said legal action was being started.
The protests are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral-roll irregularities.
Delhi Police said a viral clip showed officers in a common passage at Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, not entering the shoe-free area while wearing shoes.
Police said the clip was circulated with malicious intent and that legal action was being initiated.
PIB Fact Check said footage claimed to show a Jantar Mantar protest was actually from a protest at Aligarh Muslim University.
PIB also debunked an old video falsely claimed to show Delhi Police opening fire during the current protest.
The agency rejected social media claims that authorities deliberately dumped garbage to disrupt protests in Delhi.
