Bhopal Clears New Market Encroachments After Major Fire
A big fire happened at a food shop in Bhopal’s New Market on October 8.
It spread to five nearby shops and more than 12 vendor stalls.
Firefighters had trouble reaching the fire because market lanes and footpaths were crowded with things outside shops.
Two days later, the city corporation cleared those spaces and took away four truckloads of goods.
Workers also removed plastic sheets and covers above shops.
Officials checked firefighting equipment at three food businesses.
The corporation fined some businesses and vendors a total of Rs 13,000.
Officials were concerned about eateries using cooking furnaces for long hours.
Bhopal Municipal Corporation began an anti-encroachment drive on October 10, two days after a major fire at New Market.
Crews cleared footpaths and market lanes and seized four truckloads of goods, including stalls, displays and plastic coverings.
The October 8 fire at Balaji Chhole-Bhature spread to five nearby shops and more than 12 street-vendor stalls, causing losses worth crores of rupees.

The corporation imposed fines totaling Rs 13,000, including Rs 10,000 on Heera Namkeen and Rs 2,000 on a Chowmein Fast Food stall.
