Danish Fund Exits US Treasuries Amid Market Turmoil
A big pension fund in Denmark, called AkademikerPension, is selling all its US government bonds.
The fund, which manages money for teachers and academics, thinks the US government's money situation is not good and might cause problems.
The fund's boss, Anders Schelde, said they don't think the US is a safe place to invest money anymore.
They also mentioned that the US president's actions, like talking about taking over Greenland, made them worried.
So, they decided to sell their US bonds and find other places to invest their money.
This decision comes as US stocks are falling, the dollar is getting weaker, and there are concerns about a trade war with Europe.
AkademikerPension, a Danish pension fund, plans to exit US Treasuries by the end of January 2026.
The fund manages around $25 billion in savings and held about $100 million in US Treasuries at the end of 2025.
Chief Investment Officer Anders Schelde cited credit risks, fiscal concerns, a weaker dollar, and Trump's push for Greenland as reasons for the exit.
US stocks tumbled, the dollar weakened, and long-term Treasury yields edged higher due to growing unease among investors.
Trump threatened to impose tariffs on several European allies unless they backed US efforts to acquire Greenland, escalating transatlantic tensions.
