Armed Forces to Assess Agniveer Retention After First Batches Exit

Agniveers serve in the Indian Armed Forces for four years.

The first group from the Indian Navy is due to finish that period next month.

The Armed Forces are expected to watch how the process of taking some Agniveers into regular service works.

They will assess this and other aspects over the next few months.

Under the current rules, only 25 per cent from each service can be selected as regular soldiers.

Selection is based on merit.

Officials may discuss whether to increase that percentage after reviewing the first few groups.
