Mumbai's First Travelator Skywalk Connects Metro and Monorail
Mumbai is building its first travelator-equipped skywalk to connect the Mahalaxmi Metro station with the Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail station.
This moving walkway, like those at airports, will help people move more easily between the two stations, which are about 700 meters apart.
It's part of a plan to make public transport in Mumbai better by linking different types of transport.
The monorail, which has been closed since September 2025, is also being upgraded with new technology before it starts running again.
This skywalk will make it easier for people to switch between the metro, monorail, and possibly the railway station in the future.
Mumbai is constructing its first travelator-equipped skywalk to connect Mahalaxmi Metro station and Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail station.
The skywalk aims to reduce walking time and provide convenience for commuters, especially those with mobility issues.
The project is part of a broader strategy to integrate different modes of public transport in Mumbai.
The Sant Gadge Maharaj Chowk Monorail station is undergoing upgrades with a new CBTC signalling system before resuming operations.
The skywalk is expected to facilitate future connectivity with Mahalaxmi railway station, creating a three-way interchange.
