POWERGRID and Africa50 Sign PPP Deal for Kenya Transmission Projects
POWERGRID, an Indian company, and Africa50, an African investment group, have teamed up to build important power lines in Kenya.
These lines will help move electricity from places with lots of renewable energy to where it's needed most.
The project is special because it's the first of its kind in Africa where private companies are building and running the power lines.
POWERGRID is known for building power lines in many countries and has a lot of experience.
This project will last for 30 years and will help make Kenya's power system more reliable.
POWERGRID has built many power lines and substations around the world and uses modern technology to keep the power flowing smoothly.
POWERGRID and Africa50 signed a PPP agreement for transmission projects in Kenya.
The projects include the 400 kV Lessos–Loosuk and 220 kV Kisumu–Kakamega–Musaga transmission lines.
The agreement has a concession period of 30 years.
This is Africa's first Independent Transmission Project (ITP) and POWERGRID's first project-finance international transmission venture in Africa.
The projects aim to strengthen Kenya's national grid and improve system reliability.
