Allahabad High Court Condemns Police Detention, Awards Compensation

The Allahabad High Court heard about a man who was kept at a police station for four days.

The man was not accused of committing the alleged offences.

Police detained him to pressure his brother to surrender.

His brother was wanted in cases involving an alleged attempt to murder and rioting.

The court said police cannot use an innocent family member as leverage.

It called the detention unlawful and an abuse of power.

The court ordered the man to receive Rs 40,000.

It also directed that its displeasure with the police officials be recorded in their service records.
