Bihar Floods Leave Families Without Essential Hygiene Supplies
Floods in Bihar have made everyday hygiene very difficult for many families.
Dirty floodwater surrounds homes in some areas.
People may struggle to find clean drinking water, soap, toilets and fresh clothes.
Women and girls can find it especially hard to manage their periods safely.
They may lack sanitary pads, privacy, water for washing and safe places to dispose of used products.
Children also need soap, clean clothes, water and sometimes diapers.
A relief group is preparing hygiene kits for families affected by the floods.
The kits contain items such as pads, soap, underwear, disinfectant, mosquito protection and drinking water.
The campaign hopes to provide 500 families with these supplies.
Flooding has affected about 50.49 lakh people across 15 Bihar districts, according to the Bihar Disaster Management Department.
Residents report shortages of clean water, soap, private toilets, clothing and menstrual hygiene products.
The Better India and DonateKart are supporting Parmartha – A Hand For You Foundation’s relief campaign.
The campaign aims to raise Rs 305,000 to distribute 500 hygiene kits to flood-affected families.
Each kit costs roughly Rs 610 and includes pads, soap, detergent, underwear, disinfectant, mosquito protection and drinking water.
