China Challenges India's IT, Solar Policies at WTO
China has complained to the World Trade Organization (WTO) about India's rules for IT products and solar panels.
China says these rules make it hard for their goods to compete because India charges extra taxes and gives more support to local products.
India wants to make more things in their own country and not rely so much on imports.
China and India trade a lot, but India buys much more from China than it sells, which causes a big trade deficit.
The WTO will now try to help both countries talk and solve the problem.
If they can't agree, the WTO might make a decision.
However, the WTO's system for solving big problems is not working well right now, so it might be hard to fix this issue.
China filed a complaint at the WTO against India's IT tariffs and solar PLI scheme.
China alleges that India's tariffs on IT goods exceed bound rates and discriminate against Chinese products.
India argues that newer tech products like smartphones are not covered by its zero tariff commitments under the 1996 IT Agreement.
China claims that India's PLI scheme for solar modules is discriminatory against imported goods.
India's trade deficit with China widened to USD 99.2 billion during 2024-25.
