More Horses Test Positive for Glanders in India
Some horses in India have a sickness called glanders.
It makes them very sick with fever and weight loss.
More horses in Hyderabad and Bengaluru have been found with this sickness.
The clubs are testing more horses to make sure they are safe.
They are also canceling races to stop the sickness from spreading.
The clubs are paying money to the owners of the sick horses.
Experts are working hard to make sure the sickness does not spread to people or other animals.
Four more horses in Hyderabad and four in Bengaluru tested positive for glanders, bringing the total to six in Hyderabad and four in Bengaluru.
The Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) canceled Friday’s race day due to the positive cases.
Government veterinarians asked the Hyderabad Race Club (HRC) to resubmit samples from all 13 quarantined horses for retesting.
Racehorse owners in Hyderabad are receiving Rs. 17,500 per horse as compensation during the quarantine.
Clubs in Mysore and Calcutta are also testing horses for glanders, adding to the uncertainty in the racing community.
