JioStar Challenges CCI Probe in Supreme Court
JioStar, a streaming platform owned by Reliance Industries, is going to the Supreme Court to challenge an investigation by the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
The CCI is looking into whether JioStar is being unfair in the Kerala TV market by giving special discounts to one company, KCCL, while charging others more.
Asianet, another TV distributor, complained that JioStar is dominant because it controls many popular channels and sports events.
JioStar says the CCI shouldn't be involved because another regulator, Trai, should handle these issues.
The CCI says it can still investigate even if another regulator is involved.
The Supreme Court will decide whether the CCI can continue its investigation.
JioStar challenges CCI probe in Supreme Court over alleged abuse of dominance in Kerala TV market.
Asianet accused JioStar of offering discriminatory discounts to KCCL, giving it an unfair market advantage.
CCI found a prima facie case in 2022 and ordered an investigation, which JioStar argues is outside CCI's jurisdiction.
Kerala High Court upheld CCI's investigation, leading JioStar to appeal to the Supreme Court.
JioStar was formed in 2024 after Reliance Industries merged its media business with Disney's India operations.
