Bengaluru Shop Owner and Man Clash Over Kannada Signboard Rules

Bengaluru Shop Owner and Man Clash Over Kannada Signboard Rules

Imagine a shop owner in Bengaluru had a sign in English, and a man asked her to put more Kannada (the local language) on it.

The man said the law requires at least 60% of the sign to be in Kannada.

The shop owner felt like she was being bothered and said she already has some Kannada on her sign.

They argued about the rules, and the man said he would report her.

This is part of a bigger debate in Karnataka about using the local language everywhere.
