UN Reports Nearly 100 Abducted or Disappeared in Syria Since January
Imagine a country where many people have gone missing over the years.
The United Nations, which is like a world club that tries to help people, has counted that since the beginning of this year, almost 100 people have been taken away or have vanished.
This is a new problem happening even after a different leader took charge of the country.
It's hard to know exactly how many people are gone because it's still not very safe there, and people are afraid to talk.
The UN is asking for everyone to be safe and is looking into why people are disappearing.
The UN Human Rights Office has recorded at least 97 abductions or disappearances in Syria since January.
These new cases are in addition to over 100,000 people who went missing under the former government.
The volatile security situation makes it difficult to ascertain an accurate figure and trace missing persons.
Some families have been reunited with loved ones, but many still do not know the fate of their relatives.
The UN highlighted the case of a Syria Civil Defense volunteer who disappeared on July 16.
