Punjab and Haryana High Court Protects US Citizen's Bail
A judge in the Punjab and Haryana High Court decided not to cancel the bail of a US citizen who was accused of harassing her son-in-law.
The son-in-law had written a note before he died, naming the accused.
The judge said that just because the crime is serious or because someone disagrees with the lower court's decision doesn't mean the bail should be taken away.
The judge also noted that the accused had been cooperating with the investigation.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court dismissed a plea to cancel anticipatory bail granted to a US citizen accused of harassment.
The accused was named in the victim's last note before his death.
Justice Sumeet Goel held that the seriousness of the offense or dissatisfaction with the lower court's reasoning is not sufficient to recall the bail.
The bail was granted in June 2025, and the court found no grounds to set it aside.
The accused had been cooperating fully with the investigation.
